I am in desperate need of a haircut and I would like my hair like the one in the link but I do not have a clue what to ask for when I go to the Barbers!

To be honest I think it looks ugly.......
But you can take the picutre in and say you want that cut, and they'll do it for you (assuming your hair is long enough for it).
Best advice is to take the picture with you to the barber.
Bring him the picture. Interpretation of what you say and what they hear can vary so a picture eliminates that mis-communication. Keep in mind that when its cut it will not look like the photo without product in your hair first, so I would suggest that you actually go to a hair salon rather than a barber shop, where trends and classes on techniques are more current there than with your local old guy at the corner shop. How do I ask for a scene haircut at the hairdressers?

well, considering that your printer's broken, i'd say that you should try drawing the style in a couple of different angles, the way that you would want it and hope for it to look like. :)
because from this one picture, it looks like it would be very difficult to assess the hair style all the way around.
also, if you have a mobile phone with an SD card adaptor, you could transfer the picture to your phone. :D

as for a worded description, it's kind of hard to describe, as words don't give the exact same mental image to all people, but i'd suggest first telling your hair dresser that it is an ';alternative'; hair style.
ask for a loooooong side fringe that's swept to the right (or if you want it to the left, specify specify specify), and the layers framing your face to be kept long and then gradiate to longer as they go down.
short layers on the top, gradiates a bit as they go down, with one (longest) long layer on the bottom.
but i reallyyyyyyyyyyy want to stress, PLEASE don't go in to get it cut without some sort of visual reference.
i'm not saying that it absolutely won't turn out right without one, but the odds are are that it probably won't turn out the way you wanted it. this goes along with any hairstyle.
also, it probably won't turn out EXACTLY like the picture to a tee, and it may take several hair cuts to get this style before it actually happens, or you may need to cut on it some yourself after you get it done.
so make sure first that you reaaaaaally want it. bad.
and, like the person above me said, the upkeep is very high maintenance.
my hair's maintenance is similar to what i can assume you'd have to do to style this particular cut, and i'll copy and paste another answer that i used to describe the process of styling:
as for styling,
i'd say that to achieve more volume in the uppermost layers, while your hair is still damp, apply a small amount of sculpting liquid to the roots [i use Bed Head Creative Genius鈩? but this is only if you want really intense volume... lol], and then hold your head upside down while you blow dry your hair, concentrating on the roots first and then the ends. (seems strange, but it really works.... for me at least. lol.)
if you don't have naturally straight hair, then straighten only the ends of your hair with a flat iron, try your best not to pull too hard so as to take away volume...
work in sections and back comb at the roots and lightly spray them with hair spray.
wait for the hairspray to become dry then... i guess, kind of ';scrunch'; your hair at the top? lol. it makes it poof out more, and helps separate the hairsprayed sections so that they don't look stringy.
also, it looks like she may be wearing extensions, so you either have to put those in at the bottom, or if you're using your own hair, just straighten the bottom most layers. (however, you'd want to straighten your bottom layers after blow drying and before the rest of the steps.)
and remember, if you still don't get the results that you want, play around with it a bit and see what works best for you. ;)

Theoretically;; the haircut you want looks very nice
You wont like this but that hair cut is hard to maintain and you probrably wont be able to restyle that hair everytime you wash it
So do something else to your hair;; because if you didnt like that hairstyle once its cut on you;; it will take a while growing it back out again

I'm fed up with going to supposed edgy Covent Garden hair salons and being given the same old boring 'play-it-safe' cuts and colours. If I'm paying 拢100, I want to be given what I ask for, not what the hairdresser would prefer.

All the hairdresser can do is try to match your natural hair color by dying it, otherwise you'll have to let it grow out. Coming from experience...and never use a stripper on your hair it turns it a orangy brassy color because it just removes the color, it doesn't return your natural color.I have coloured hair and i was wondering if hairdressers can do anything to get it back to natural?

For many years, I had below waist length hair and was terrified to go for a trim. Now that my hair is shoulder length, I still have a slight anxiety of too much getting cut off or not being able to go home and do anything with it. When my daughter got her long hair cut, I was even more nervous watching her. But the more we went for trims, the better it has gotten.
Yes, I have this phobia, but it's the being touched bit I don't like.
Also having to look at yourself and say great! Even though you don't like it. I do my own hair, and it looks a mess- but I' a man and can get away with it.

She did a mistake and then she tried to fix it up by cutting more to even it up and when it was finished my beautiful long hair was no longer long! I was so upset!
She had cut 8 cm or something off my hair and I was so upset I never wanted to go to a hairdresser again! lolz!
But luckily I found a new hairdresser two years ago and she is absolutely good! She does whatever you tell her to do and she hasn't made a single mistake!
I'm happy that I can finally trust someone with my hair and not have to worry about a thing!

I think it took me over an hour to finally walk through the door ,I was terrified, but once I was seated and caped it was like there was no turning back so I just relaxed and watched in amusement as the stylist chopped it off. When I noticed she had started to go a bit shorter than I first intended I got somewhat nervous again but kinda went with it so she ended up giving me this short barber style cut. Scary , a little, crazy, yes.
I generally hate people touching my hair, If people touch It Ill flip and go on a mad one Lol
I hate going to hairdressers!!! And, if you do happen to get a good haircut, the chances that they can do it again the same way are slim to none. I have let my hair length grow out until I can't stand it anymore, only to take a picture in and have them botch it up. I went in one time with almost shoulder length hair (very straggly) and wanted a long layered look. She cut the hair on top to only about 1 inch long!! How can that be a long layer in anyone's book???

i like my clients to feel their hair durring the process; shake their heads to see how the hair lays naturally (so it'll look good doing nothing to it), bring a friend to talk to (because once i get in 'the zone' i don't talk); i also like to PAMPER my clients. in my opinion, it's not too expensive to hand them a warm towel at the beginning of the service and a hand massage at the end. scalp massage durring the shampoo, shoulder massage before styling.
i want to get to know my clients. i want to know how much time they normally spend on their hair - how much time would you LIKE to spend on it? (more or less time).
what's your lifestyle like? what's your personality? let's face it, a lawyer probably doesn't want the striped hilites or funky flippys and a girl with tatoos up her arms and legs probably doesn't want a super sleek, clean, flat hair.

Good yes, for so many years i ust couldn't deal i used to only get my fringe done and trime it myself, seemed safer. after my hair started to look trashed, i researched via the gossip lines (girlfriends) and asked them who they would recommend and why, they ended up getting back to me with rokk ebony salons, they were awesome also i only go to the one stylist so that they get used to my hair and no what i am looking for.
Also let the person know how anxious you are and then suggest they take little bit by little bit off the bottom of your hair instead of taking it all off at once, because that is when mistakes can happen, or when you realise that what you said isn't what you meant.
Be willing to spend money for a good cut because it is something people see EVERY DAY,

the yelled at me, pulled my hair really hard, scratched my scalp, gave me the result i didnt want.

What products do hairdressers use when cutting hair?
because no matter where i go, whether it be a great clips or high end salon, my hair always smells so good for days! and it always smells similar. when buying shampoo/conditioner, i go for the one with the closest smell to a fresh haircut, but aside from when i'm actually washing my hair, i can never smell the scent after the shower.

you will find even hairdressers (myself included) can never get their hair to go the same way as when someone else does it.
its all to do with the angles of the brushes and the tension put on the hair when drying it. which is near on impossible to do yourself.

Does your hairdresser wash your hair then blow dry it? Hairdressers are able to make your hair straight with the hairdryer. Also.. is your hair naturally bushy? After you wash your hair, it goes boofy, unless you straighten it. Hairdressers are experts and can make your hair feel light and soft.
I was asking my hairdresser this a few weeks ago and he said it was to do with having the space and all the mirrors around. A few days later i used a conditioning treatment and give myself loads of room and time to dry it and it did make a difference. Ok it wasnt exactly the same but i was walking round the house shaking my head because it felt so light and bouncy. Try it!
because :
#1. tha hairdresser uses salon shampoo/conditioner to wash it with.
#2. tha hairdresser blowdrys it straight to avoid boofyness.
#3. tha hairdresser usually puts in product eg. smoothing serum
#4. alot of places use ghd straightners which give a smooth straight look.

Hairdressers can tell u what ur doing to kill ur hair.
We can tell hairdressers how to find the volume of a cylinder.
We're just all differently skilled. U should probably ask the hairdresser that question coz they can answer it better than anyone else here.
It's easier to tame a healthy fly everywhere hair than to tame fried hair.
Because the hairdressers are experts. We have skills in other areas!

its all to do with the angles of the brushes and the tension put on the hair when drying it. which is near on impossible to do yourself.
i have trouble doing my hair straight as it is curly, yet in the salon i can blow dry even the curliest hair poker straight!

Does your hairdresser wash your hair then blow dry it? Hairdressers are able to make your hair straight with the hairdryer. Also.. is your hair naturally bushy? After you wash your hair, it goes boofy, unless you straighten it. Hairdressers are experts and can make your hair feel light and soft.
I was asking my hairdresser this a few weeks ago and he said it was to do with having the space and all the mirrors around. A few days later i used a conditioning treatment and give myself loads of room and time to dry it and it did make a difference. Ok it wasnt exactly the same but i was walking round the house shaking my head because it felt so light and bouncy. Try it!

go to work shops and hair shows, my fav stylist goes occasionally, matter of fact only two other people have cut my hair in 6.5 yrs wont do that again, she doesnt work at a high end salon, but she is awesome and is requested ALOT.You just have to be good and pay attention to what the customer wants and also let them know if you can or cant do that style with there hair and why. just be friendly

my daughter was told by her employer that she cant take 12 days off her work for her summer holiday as this will be on her emplyers busiest days !! even though my daughter booked this 24 weeks before and told her employer. the boss has now looked at it and decided that it wont suit her as she will be losing money! what are my daughters rights ? the boss reckons hairdressers holidays work out different from everyone else!!Are hairdressers entitled to the same holidays as everyone else?

If your boss can't give any written evidence backing her comments about hairdresssers holiday, then I would state that your daughter will be going on the holiday. If the boss threatens her with the sack if she goes on holiday, then you would have a strong case for unfair dismissal in a tribunal case.
Every employed worker is entitled by law to have a minimum four weeks holidays per year, and bank holidays must not be included as holidays.
you aren't ';entitlted'; to any holidays, there are plenty of professions that do not get any holidays off and work most weekends. An employer is not obligated to give someone time off.
If the salon where your daughter works is privately owned, the owner has the right to set holidays as she/he wishes. If he/she approved the holiday before hand and told your daughter she could go, then I think it's pretty petty of her/him to suddenly change their mind and not let her go. Salons work on a different schedule then most employers. I don't think they are mandated by state and federal law concerning which holidays they work. It's just like a store that stays open on the Fourth of July or Memorial Day, etc. They don't HAVE to close, they just do in defference to the holiday.
Everyone working in the UK is legally entitled to 4 times their working week as statutory holiday. The employer has a right to dictate when these can or can not take place.
If your daughter has previously informed the employer of these dates and boss has changed her mind then it is extremely unfair and should be raised again with the boss. Unfortunately if your daughter has been working their less than one year she may find herself without a job and no statutory protection for unfair dismissal.
What about the other staff??? Do they take holidays at this busy time?

I think atleast Labor Day should be off for absolutely everyone, but that will never happen as there is money to be made. Holidays are the busiest for people who work for customers, usually when all employees have to work.

Girlfirend, there are many ways to scare a stylist and that is it! just tell her that if she cant fix it, your lawyer will! But if u don't want 2 relax it u can get ur hair braided with weavon or attachments 2 last 4 sometime. if u have a specific hairstylist that knows much bout ur hair u can ask him/her questions bout it. or maybe u could braid then later relax ur hair.
They have messed up and are obliged to fix this for you, whatever you decide they should swallow the cost of it, just be firm and pleasant about it,but make sure you get a satisfactory response, you are entitled to their assistance if this is their fault.

This is not rude at all. People usually take a picture of someone with a hairstyle that they are interested in. When you try to describe your hairstyle to the dresser, they may not understand what you are asking for. I recently got a job in Sally's Salon Services, and I know quite a bit about nails and waxing but nothing about hair. My manager told me not to worry as most people know exactly what they're looking for anyway, but hair dye confuses me. The higher the number on the peroxide developer, the more lift you will get. 10 volume is no lift (from light to dyed dark hair), 20 is moderate lift (like going from light brown to dark blonde - best for most hair colors), 30 is high lift (going from medium brown to blonde) and 40 is high high lift, ( going from dark brown to blonde).
Semi and demi permanent are no-lift, you don't use any peroxide, the color just goes on the existing hair.

Ok, I'm 14 years old and My mom has cherokee Indian and Itailian in her blood, she has naturally wavy/curly hair so curly that she could take her finger and twist it and a curl would pop out! My dad on the other hand had a father with a very fine wavy set of hair, but his hair turned out nappy. So i'm born with nappy hair even though this seems unlikely, since these hair types are in my blood can i change my nappy/kinky hair to a very wavy or curly set permanently? Paying $11 more is definintely worth going with a senior stylist, especially if the cut is under $50 (don't forget to tip), especially since I'm used to paying no less than $80 for a cut. I stupidly went from blonde to dark and have spent 2 years trying to get it back to a nice colour. It's now blonde but yellow and everytime I try to break up the colour I get dark stripes put in. Do you know her schedule? Maybe need an appointment when she is off. And then if you run into her just let her know either you needed a hair cut when she was off and were lucky to find someone else who was talented. or if you didn't like the new one go back. That is a tough situation but If you are like me it can get pretty pricey and you have every right to pick someone you are happy with. My friend switched to a stylist in the next chair- that takes guts but my stylist wasn't upset because she is confident in her abilities and knew that for the type of styles my friend was looking for (brighter hair colors like purple and punk styles that the other person would do a great job. How securely are hairdressers mirrors attatched to the wall?
I am a VERY anxious person, and I was in the hairdressers earlier (don't ask, lol) and I was tapping the metal footrest thing against the wall under the mirror. Not *very* hard, but it was still touching the wall and I wasn't sure exactly how forceful it was.
The mirror is a little shorter than the height of the wall it's on, and is secured to the wall near the top and bottom.
I'm worried that somehow the mirror is going to fall off the wall, or something like that.
Is it possible for this to happen? I assume these mirrors are attatched firmly to the wall to prevent this happening... maybe...

Yes, It is very normal, you should usually come in with an example or the hairdresser sometimes will be mixed up and get it wrong. I had to learn that the hard way (don't worry, my hair grew back though lmao)

When I did my work experience at a hairdressers all I really did was sweep the floor, make tea, wash hair %26amp; help the hairdressers with foil strips and perm rods. You're not allowed to do anything to the hair. It's really interesting though as they let me watch and talked me through what they were doing, and how they were doing it. It's a very social job, so it's lots of fun and involves lots of interesting conversation.

but you have to go to the salon presentable so that means hair tidy as that is what is going to be your proffesion ans its no good you having untidy unkept hair its up to you if you wear make up if you were gonna be a beauty therapist it would be a must ,some days i was treated like a general dogs body making clients tea and other days it would be tea making but also you would shampoo the client for the stylist i was allowed to take perming rods out after i had neutralised the perm it is fun but its like any thing their are good and bad things that we always like and dislike about our jobs etc but im sure you will have a great time learning the proffesion of hairdressing and you just wait till you learn color enjoy your self if you get the chance learn nvq 2+3 and barbering its more qualifications for you

Yes, believe it or not that is how we are trained. We are trained to massage your head. My teacher uses the metaphor 'squeeze the lemons.' And we have to pull your hair a little (add tension) while cutting the hair because we need to make the hair straight so it's all the same length. If you notice, your hair dresser will also cut at different angles too(90,45, and 180 degrees are the most common), that is also to make the hair the same length.Do they scrub your head at the hairdressers and pull it a tad while cuttiing it? ?

Is there any way to make the redness of my dyed hair fade away? hairdressers please help?
i recently went from natural light brown hair to blonde... i hated it, so i had them try to match my natural color again. they did a pretty good job, except my hair pulls red really bad and it looks too red. The worst thing you could do is dye your hair too much..You just have to wait it out and let it fade a little. The hairdresser i go to is Claire Francoise Salon which is an excellent hairdressing salon. It cost about $75 for a cut, shampoo and style of 45min of hair pampering.
If you want to go for something cheaper i would reccomend Hair Room Salons which would cost about $30 for short hair.

After you have done the conditioner and comb and finally got rid of them spray tea tree oil diluted with water in your hair every day. I do this with my daughter and she is the only one in nursery who has never got nits. Otherwise you will have to shave your head like I did to my sons.

As a hairdresser - I would say there is no need to wash your hair first, unless it is really greasy, and you are having a dry/wet cut, if you are having a wash, cut and blow dry, there is nothing more satisfying then having someone walk into the salon looking rough, and leaving looking a million dollars.

spicify your hair length and texture ect as well as current color
my best advice is for you to do it yourself
all you need to buy is some hair bleech and the pink hair dye, and of course the black hair dye.

i have really thick hair, when i was younger a stylist thinned my hair with scissor. It didnt look that good. it was thick on the top and thin on the bottom. whats the best way somewhat thin your hair out so it isnt that thick, what do i tell my stylist. can you tell me about the thinning scissor, what do they do. it gets thicker on top and thinner on bottom because what they are basically doing is cutting the top layer of your hair shorter, so that there is less hair on the bottom. there is no way to avoid this. sorry!How do i thin my hair need hairdressers/your help please help ?
Thinning scissors are great!!! i use them myself all the time! look up a picture of them on the internet and you will get how they work. They are definately not bad for your hair!

I am a hairdresser and for one dont go buy a razor and do it your self! For one no one with curly have should ever use a razor it will only make curly have frizzy! Thinning scissors are great!! They dont damage your hair its just like cutting it but not taking a straight line out. Tell your stylist to use the thinning shears she can do just a few inches from the root all the way down. So its not just at the bottom they work with dry hair also So have her style it how you would then use the thnning shears till it lays as thin as you want it. You can take out as much as you want with them!

once you have that just start razoring in between your hair.

better yet - if there is a college, ask if they do NVQ Level 3 training and book yaself into that session - hairdresser who are doing NVQ Level 3 are students who are all ready fully qualified and have had a minimum of a yrs salon experience, and they are just learning advanced skills in colour and cutting so you get the fully qualified hairdresser at trainee prices :o)Does anyone know of a hairdressers in Cardiff that need ';models'; for trainees?

Why do I get so nervous going to the hairdressers?
Whenever I go to the hairdressers, I always get really nervous that it isn't going to look good, literally to the point where I sometimes feel really sick sitting in the hairdressing chair, my hairdresser is really nice and really good so I don't understand why I get so dramatic about it!
Tomorrow I'm finally cutting my long hair into a cute bob for a nice change, but now I'm suddenly getting all this jittery doubtfulness again, someone say something to snap me out of being so damn pathetic, please!

The lady who use to cut my hair has moved out of town and replaced by an immigrant. I love immigrants but not ones who cut hair. So many of the hairstylists that I have gone to so far are English challenged immigrants who I struggle trying to communicate with.

If dye your hair blonde from brown with a regular box of hair dye it's gonna come out reddish brown. I had the same color brown and then dyed it blonde, that's what happened. You need to bleach it first, which i recommend a salon from expierence, and then do it a dirty blonde first and work your way from there. A lot of gay men and women tend to be more artistic than straight people in general. I think it has a lot to do with the way they grow up, expressing they're feelings, etc. A lot of men are taught from society not to show emotion (i.e, cry) and it represses their emotions. A lot of art is based on emotions. Therefor, when you are repressed you tend to lack artistic sense and creativity.
Gay men are known to be more ';sensitive';, generally speaking. They are more open and aware of their feelings and artistic abilities. Also notice that most straight artists have no problem with homosexuals and can even get along very well with them.
And yes. Cosmetology(including hairdressing) and interior decorators are both forms of art.

I work in two different fields myself. that is emergency medicine (ambulance) and law enforcement.
we all have different talents, some of us are more artistic then others.
They are generally more creative than straight men (pertaining to aesthetics)?
They are not afraid that people will think they're gay (because people already know that's the truth)?
There are many possible reasons.
i think thats more of a stereotypicle kind of thing . because most of the gay guys i know happen to be rather straight acting . not that there arent ones that have those intrests
