For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?

I'm translating a text and I need the English for the technique in which you apply bleaching powder (or any other product), for instance to make highlights, and then you cover the piece of hair where the product has been applied with foil. In Spanish we call the technique ';en cubierto'; (something like ';covered';) The opposite technique is call ';en libertad'; (something like ';freedom';). I need the exact name used in English for both techniques. For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?
highlighting with foils is usually called Foiling.

i'm not sure that the other technique has a name. For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?
Foiling, usually. Free hand uncovered streaking is called Balliage, I think. French, of course.I may have misspelt. I always call it paint ons. Another technique where bleach is applied to the ends of short hair, having been made to stand straight up first, is foxing, or shoe shining ( if applied with strip of foil which is not left in place)
