What would you ask at a hairdressers if you wanted your hair like this?

http://www.zimbio.com/2008+Hairstyles

I am in desperate need of a haircut and I would like my hair like the one in the link but I do not have a clue what to ask for when I go to the Barbers!

Please help ;)What would you ask at a hairdressers if you wanted your hair like this?
you must read this link this very informative information regards usWhat would you ask at a hairdressers if you wanted your hair like this?
To be honest I think it looks ugly.......

But you can take the picutre in and say you want that cut, and they'll do it for you (assuming your hair is long enough for it).
Best advice is to take the picture with you to the barber.
Bring him the picture. Interpretation of what you say and what they hear can vary so a picture eliminates that mis-communication. Keep in mind that when its cut it will not look like the photo without product in your hair first, so I would suggest that you actually go to a hair salon rather than a barber shop, where trends and classes on techniques are more current there than with your local old guy at the corner shop. Good luck
Cool cut

Just print out a picture and take take it with you. Good luck

How do I ask for a scene haircut at the hairdressers?

My printer doesn't work but this is how I want to get my hair:

Please answer!!

xxHow do I ask for a scene haircut at the hairdressers?
well, considering that your printer's broken, i'd say that you should try drawing the style in a couple of different angles, the way that you would want it and hope for it to look like. :)

because from this one picture, it looks like it would be very difficult to assess the hair style all the way around.

also, if you have a mobile phone with an SD card adaptor, you could transfer the picture to your phone. :D

umm, yeah. anyway...

as for a worded description, it's kind of hard to describe, as words don't give the exact same mental image to all people, but i'd suggest first telling your hair dresser that it is an ';alternative'; hair style.

ask for a loooooong side fringe that's swept to the right (or if you want it to the left, specify specify specify), and the layers framing your face to be kept long and then gradiate to longer as they go down.

short layers on the top, gradiates a bit as they go down, with one (longest) long layer on the bottom.

but i reallyyyyyyyyyyy want to stress, PLEASE don't go in to get it cut without some sort of visual reference.

i'm not saying that it absolutely won't turn out right without one, but the odds are are that it probably won't turn out the way you wanted it. this goes along with any hairstyle.

also, it probably won't turn out EXACTLY like the picture to a tee, and it may take several hair cuts to get this style before it actually happens, or you may need to cut on it some yourself after you get it done.

so make sure first that you reaaaaaally want it. bad.

and, like the person above me said, the upkeep is very high maintenance.

my hair's maintenance is similar to what i can assume you'd have to do to style this particular cut, and i'll copy and paste another answer that i used to describe the process of styling:

as for styling,

i'd say that to achieve more volume in the uppermost layers, while your hair is still damp, apply a small amount of sculpting liquid to the roots [i use Bed Head Creative Genius鈩? but this is only if you want really intense volume... lol], and then hold your head upside down while you blow dry your hair, concentrating on the roots first and then the ends. (seems strange, but it really works.... for me at least. lol.)

if you don't have naturally straight hair, then straighten only the ends of your hair with a flat iron, try your best not to pull too hard so as to take away volume...

work in sections and back comb at the roots and lightly spray them with hair spray.

wait for the hairspray to become dry then... i guess, kind of ';scrunch'; your hair at the top? lol. it makes it poof out more, and helps separate the hairsprayed sections so that they don't look stringy.

also, it looks like she may be wearing extensions, so you either have to put those in at the bottom, or if you're using your own hair, just straighten the bottom most layers. (however, you'd want to straighten your bottom layers after blow drying and before the rest of the steps.)

and remember, if you still don't get the results that you want, play around with it a bit and see what works best for you. ;)

if you need any more help or have any more questions, feel free to contact me and i'll do my best to help. :]

^but this is just an estimate of what you'd have to do, as this was used to describe a similar but still different style.

-----

and, you will probably end up using a BUTTLOAD of shampoo. lol.

but anyway, i hope that this has helped, and good luck with your hair!!鈾?:]How do I ask for a scene haircut at the hairdressers?
Theoretically;; the haircut you want looks very nice

You wont like this but that hair cut is hard to maintain and you probrably wont be able to restyle that hair everytime you wash it

So do something else to your hair;; because if you didnt like that hairstyle once its cut on you;; it will take a while growing it back out again

Good Luck with Your hairstyle!

Just make sure you dont regret it

Edit- if you do go through with this hair style.. buy some GHD straighteners;; they are the best in keeping your hair pin straight. they cost about 100 british punds. they are expensive but they last for ages and they are really really good

I know a girl at school who had one cut and it looked fab. but then she washed it and it looked absoloutley awful. she tried to maintain it but it was too much hassle so she just gave up. and now she looks like something out of a horror movie

Good luck though

Can anyone recommend a hairdressers in London, UK, that specialises in scene/emo haircuts and colours?

I'm fed up with going to supposed edgy Covent Garden hair salons and being given the same old boring 'play-it-safe' cuts and colours. If I'm paying 拢100, I want to be given what I ask for, not what the hairdresser would prefer.

So can anyone recommend a hairdresser or salon that specialises in Scene/Emo hairstyles anywhere in London? Can anyone recommend a hairdressers in London, UK, that specialises in scene/emo haircuts and colours?
Try going to Saks or Contemporary it will be around the same price maybe a little less but they will definitely give you the hair cut you want but they will recommend the best cut for you, they wont cut it in though without your say so. Hope this helps! Can anyone recommend a hairdressers in London, UK, that specialises in scene/emo haircuts and colours?
You can find many hairdressers in London that specializes in hairdressing. The whole idea of hairdressing is to get someone's hair how you want it, so you need to explain to the hairdresser how you want it done, I'm sure they would be able to do it.

I have coloured hair and i was wondering if hairdressers can do anything to get it back to natural?

All the hairdresser can do is try to match your natural hair color by dying it, otherwise you'll have to let it grow out. Coming from experience...and never use a stripper on your hair it turns it a orangy brassy color because it just removes the color, it doesn't return your natural color.I have coloured hair and i was wondering if hairdressers can do anything to get it back to natural?

they could put in your natural colour hair dye and eventually it would grow out or they could strip it( ireccomend you do not strip it)

  • Anyone else have a phobia of going to the hairdressers?

Its everything about it. Sitting there looking in the mirror and scared they will cut your hair the wrong wayAnyone else have a phobia of going to the hairdressers?
yes i hate it , i don't go anymore i just leave it grown and then do the forward long layer cut myself... after years of going to diff salons and many tears, they never ever get it right or how u want it ... and they charge u all that money so u can go home and cry !!Anyone else have a phobia of going to the hairdressers?
For many years, I had below waist length hair and was terrified to go for a trim. Now that my hair is shoulder length, I still have a slight anxiety of too much getting cut off or not being able to go home and do anything with it. When my daughter got her long hair cut, I was even more nervous watching her. But the more we went for trims, the better it has gotten.
Yes, I have this phobia, but it's the being touched bit I don't like.

Also having to look at yourself and say great! Even though you don't like it. I do my own hair, and it looks a mess- but I' a man and can get away with it.
    Yep! I hate it heaps!

I remember four years ago when I was twelve my hair needed a haircut so we went to a hairdresser and it took her ages to put layers on my hair!

She did a mistake and then she tried to fix it up by cutting more to even it up and when it was finished my beautiful long hair was no longer long! I was so upset!

She had cut 8 cm or something off my hair and I was so upset I never wanted to go to a hairdresser again! lolz!

But luckily I found a new hairdresser two years ago and she is absolutely good! She does whatever you tell her to do and she hasn't made a single mistake!

I'm happy that I can finally trust someone with my hair and not have to worry about a thing!

Anyway I hope this helped :-)

    Bianca!!!!!!
Yes and no. A while back I decided I was going to have my long hair cut . I think it took me over an hour to finally walk through the door ,I was terrified, but once I was seated and caped it was like there was no turning back so I just relaxed and watched in amusement as the stylist chopped it off. When I noticed she had started to go a bit shorter than I first intended I got somewhat nervous again but kinda went with it so she ended up giving me this short barber style cut. Scary , a little, crazy, yes.
I generally hate people touching my hair, If people touch It Ill flip and go on a mad one Lol
I hate going to hairdressers!!! And, if you do happen to get a good haircut, the chances that they can do it again the same way are slim to none. I have let my hair length grow out until I can't stand it anymore, only to take a picture in and have them botch it up. I went in one time with almost shoulder length hair (very straggly) and wanted a long layered look. She cut the hair on top to only about 1 inch long!! How can that be a long layer in anyone's book???

My hair grows very, very slowly, so whatever cut I have, i will have for about 6 months. If it is bad, then it is here to stay for awhile.
Yes! I desperately need a new cut but I'm too terrified to go get it done. The last couple times I went (a long time ago) it was cut either too short, not enough layers, bangs were messed up, etc. I'm scared to go again!
i no a little boy who has phoebia against scissors and wenever he goes to the hairdressers and sees scissors he screams
yes i've been there and it's not a good feeling cause i'm a hairdresser me self and i have seen many just mess around with my hair.and i don't get what i realy want.hell come to me and already know what you want don't leave it to them to make you look good cause it will not work.

    good luck.
Yes, I really don't like to do it. Too many bad experiences. Usually it was cut way too short, some of them get really carried away.
i'm a hairstylist who has a serious phobia of going to get my hair done! too funny, huh?

the whole experience , from greeting to paying is one big anxiety attack.

i, personally, do EVERYTHING in my power to make my clients feel COMFORTABLE. (when i go to a salon i feel like cattle.)

i like my clients to feel their hair durring the process; shake their heads to see how the hair lays naturally (so it'll look good doing nothing to it), bring a friend to talk to (because once i get in 'the zone' i don't talk); i also like to PAMPER my clients. in my opinion, it's not too expensive to hand them a warm towel at the beginning of the service and a hand massage at the end. scalp massage durring the shampoo, shoulder massage before styling.

i want to get to know my clients. i want to know how much time they normally spend on their hair - how much time would you LIKE to spend on it? (more or less time).

what's your lifestyle like? what's your personality? let's face it, a lawyer probably doesn't want the striped hilites or funky flippys and a girl with tatoos up her arms and legs probably doesn't want a super sleek, clean, flat hair.
yes i get scared to for exactly the same reason you should ask some one you know that is a hair dresser so you get used to them before they cut your hair
Good yes, for so many years i ust couldn't deal i used to only get my fringe done and trime it myself, seemed safer. after my hair started to look trashed, i researched via the gossip lines (girlfriends) and asked them who they would recommend and why, they ended up getting back to me with rokk ebony salons, they were awesome also i only go to the one stylist so that they get used to my hair and no what i am looking for.

Also let the person know how anxious you are and then suggest they take little bit by little bit off the bottom of your hair instead of taking it all off at once, because that is when mistakes can happen, or when you realise that what you said isn't what you meant.

Be willing to spend money for a good cut because it is something people see EVERY DAY,
I hate going to the hairdressers. I have solved the problem by shaving my head for years, drastic but effective!
Just let it grow A girl with long hair is beautiful
yes everybody gets it from time to time the best thing to do is get a hairstylist recommended and take a good friend with you one who,s not afraid to open their mouth in case you did it
god yes! ive just come back from the hairdressers now and i had to pretend to my mum i loved my new hair but i absoloutly hate it. i hate at the end of the haircut when the hairdresser says is that alright? and i wanted to say No you idiot youve ruined my hair!! but obviously i couldnt so i just smiled and nodded. arghhh i hate the hairdressers!!!!
oh yeh, not that im scared of them cutting it wrong.

they were just really nasty to me!

the yelled at me, pulled my hair really hard, scratched my scalp, gave me the result i didnt want.

    gosh they were awful!

so i've been cutting, dyeing, everything myself for years in my bathroom =]

    xxxxx
Yeah i hate the part where you have to hand over all that money!!
Yes I do, they never give you the style that you ask for and after a few snips and lots of blow drying they charge you 拢35.

What products do hairdressers use when cutting hair?

because no matter where i go, whether it be a great clips or high end salon, my hair always smells so good for days! and it always smells similar. when buying shampoo/conditioner, i go for the one with the closest smell to a fresh haircut, but aside from when i'm actually washing my hair, i can never smell the scent after the shower.

any hairdressers out there...is there a certain conditioner that's meant for use only when GETTING your hair cut? What products do hairdressers use when cutting hair?
I am a professionla barber I use TAP water,,,no shampoo.

when i worked in a salon we just used whatever was on the back bar.

Why does your hair never look like it does the day you leave the hairdressers.?

Its like a soft light floating feeling. Mines like that for about a day then back to a bush.Staightening turns it to straw, left natuarlly it just flys everywhereWhy does your hair never look like it does the day you leave the hairdressers.?
you will find even hairdressers (myself included) can never get their hair to go the same way as when someone else does it.

its all to do with the angles of the brushes and the tension put on the hair when drying it. which is near on impossible to do yourself.

i have trouble doing my hair straight as it is curly, yet in the salon i can blow dry even the curliest hair poker straight!

also it has something to do with the products we use. so don't worry even us stylist have the same problem (if that makes you feel better)Why does your hair never look like it does the day you leave the hairdressers.?
Does your hairdresser wash your hair then blow dry it? Hairdressers are able to make your hair straight with the hairdryer. Also.. is your hair naturally bushy? After you wash your hair, it goes boofy, unless you straighten it. Hairdressers are experts and can make your hair feel light and soft.
I was asking my hairdresser this a few weeks ago and he said it was to do with having the space and all the mirrors around. A few days later i used a conditioning treatment and give myself loads of room and time to dry it and it did make a difference. Ok it wasnt exactly the same but i was walking round the house shaking my head because it felt so light and bouncy. Try it!
    because :

#1. tha hairdresser uses salon shampoo/conditioner to wash it with.

#2. tha hairdresser blowdrys it straight to avoid boofyness.

#3. tha hairdresser usually puts in product eg. smoothing serum

#4. alot of places use ghd straightners which give a smooth straight look.

but i agreee, i wish i could get that look at home
Hairdressers can tell u what ur doing to kill ur hair.

We can tell hairdressers how to find the volume of a cylinder.

We're just all differently skilled. U should probably ask the hairdresser that question coz they can answer it better than anyone else here.
It's easier to tame a healthy fly everywhere hair than to tame fried hair.
Because the hairdressers are experts. We have skills in other areas!
do you know what i mean crap aye, its to make to keep going back lol

    :)

Squirt Of Each :)How do hairdressers wash hair?
i worked at a hairdressers for a few month and i did this particular job alot! lol.

make sure the hair is completely wet do not put your arms over the clients face and do not burn the client, one the hair is wet turn off the shower head, pour shampoo into your palm make sure it fills your palm and rubb in with both hands it helps if you use finger tips *not nails* massage the scalp make sure you go all the way under the head and around the front of the head to! *gotta get those roots* then wash off *Always ASK the client if they want conditioner* if they do o exactly the same method as you do with shampoo only condition twice this makes the hair extra soft.
They use a squirt of conditioner, then rinse it out.

Then they use a squirt of shampoo, then rinse it out.

Then they use a squirt on conditioner again, then rinse it out.
Water, shampoo, conditioner. Works every time.

Will the hairdressers think im weird if i take a picture in of a celebrity to show them how i want my hair?

I want my hair a certain colour with streaks but i only have a picture of Fergie, will they think anything weird if take the picture in of her hair %26amp; say this is how i want it, %26amp; will they be able to do it? ...would they get people bringing in pictures all the time? Will the hairdressers think im weird if i take a picture in of a celebrity to show them how i want my hair?
No, in fact, they'd like that better than you just telling them what to do!

That way, they know exactly how to cut and color your hair.

It's not weird, I bring pictures in with me all the time.

:]Will the hairdressers think im weird if i take a picture in of a celebrity to show them how i want my hair?
They have people do that all the time-it's easier to show than to explain.
I was a hairdresser for years and I would love it when people would bring pictures BUT....I would always cover the face of the person on the picture...because do you LOVE the cut and color or do you just love the cut and color on the celebrity....because you will not look just like the picture. I liked it best when people would bring me pictures of themselves and tell me what they did and did not like about a haircut or color....it is visual and serves the same purpose.
no they won't i brought 2 books in lol when i got my hair done, i wanted 3 different colours in my hair..

its what they do and its what you'll pay them for,

    go ahead!

    x
No. People do it all the time.
of course they wont! even it they did, who cares! does it really matter what they think?
It's very common, and it's one of the best favors you can do for your hairdresser(and yourself),in addition it will help them give you an honest recommendation up front as to whether the style you want is actually a good match for your facial structure, meaning some people might have a longer face, larger nose, narrow chin, skin tone,ect...these factors all effect which cut/color will best suit you(vs what you might want),any good stylist will give you what you ask them for,but they will also advise you first if they think the look isn't ';right'; for your paticular face:-)
No. They prefer it when people do that. Gives them better visualisization...and if they do think they're weird...The hairstylist is numb, so ask for a different hairstylist.
Not at all... people do bring in pictures all the time. Some people find it hard to describe what they want and a picture says it all... Just keep in mind that your stylist will work the best that they can to achieve the look that you want, but you and Fergie are two different people so it won't look exactly alike.
hahaha thats perfectly normal!! that way its easier to know exactly what you want and makes their job easier and can personalise it to your bone structure for that special you flare

I am not very confident or good at speaking to people so i don't want my own business. I love to work with hair though. Are their any extra qualifications I can get to be a high earner but in a similar role? Can hairdressers earn good money?
go to work shops and hair shows, my fav stylist goes occasionally, matter of fact only two other people have cut my hair in 6.5 yrs wont do that again, she doesnt work at a high end salon, but she is awesome and is requested ALOT.You just have to be good and pay attention to what the customer wants and also let them know if you can or cant do that style with there hair and why. just be friendly

For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?

I'm translating a text and I need the English for the technique in which you apply bleaching powder (or any other product), for instance to make highlights, and then you cover the piece of hair where the product has been applied with foil. In Spanish we call the technique ';en cubierto'; (something like ';covered';) The opposite technique is call ';en libertad'; (something like ';freedom';). I need the exact name used in English for both techniques. For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?
highlighting with foils is usually called Foiling.

i'm not sure that the other technique has a name. For hairdressers': What's the English for 2 techniques used in aritistic hair coloring?
Foiling, usually. Free hand uncovered streaking is called Balliage, I think. French, of course.I may have misspelt. I always call it paint ons. Another technique where bleach is applied to the ends of short hair, having been made to stand straight up first, is foxing, or shoe shining ( if applied with strip of foil which is not left in place)

Are hairdressers entitled to the same holidays as everyone else?

my daughter was told by her employer that she cant take 12 days off her work for her summer holiday as this will be on her emplyers busiest days !! even though my daughter booked this 24 weeks before and told her employer. the boss has now looked at it and decided that it wont suit her as she will be losing money! what are my daughters rights ? the boss reckons hairdressers holidays work out different from everyone else!!Are hairdressers entitled to the same holidays as everyone else?
Start here and give it to her employer without lubrication http://www.dti.gov.uk/employment/employm鈥?/a> many employers have no regard for employees rights and constantly stamp on them and say that they know more until you give them a legal enema. Are hairdressers entitled to the same holidays as everyone else?
    It sucks i know.

Basically, Ive learnt as a hair stylist, we do not have much of a choice. Some times, i feel like being a slave. It's so hard for me also to get the suited time off!

This is actually a sad and important point our teachers made at cosmetology school!! and i remember, we were all so up set when heard it!! '; don't depend on your holidays'; they said!!

The reason, as you know, is that, hair stylists schedule evolves around other people's time or day offs!!

PLz, give my regards to your daughter and i feel her pain!!
    Yes all none of them.
Well ask her to show you daughter the documentation that states that hairdressers holidays differ to others.

She has had plenty of notice regarding that your daughter needing the days off.

The boss has had plenty of time to tell your daughter that she wasn't going to allow her the leave.

If your boss can't give any written evidence backing her comments about hairdresssers holiday, then I would state that your daughter will be going on the holiday. If the boss threatens her with the sack if she goes on holiday, then you would have a strong case for unfair dismissal in a tribunal case.

Every employed worker is entitled by law to have a minimum four weeks holidays per year, and bank holidays must not be included as holidays.
you aren't ';entitlted'; to any holidays, there are plenty of professions that do not get any holidays off and work most weekends. An employer is not obligated to give someone time off.
If the salon where your daughter works is privately owned, the owner has the right to set holidays as she/he wishes. If he/she approved the holiday before hand and told your daughter she could go, then I think it's pretty petty of her/him to suddenly change their mind and not let her go. Salons work on a different schedule then most employers. I don't think they are mandated by state and federal law concerning which holidays they work. It's just like a store that stays open on the Fourth of July or Memorial Day, etc. They don't HAVE to close, they just do in defference to the holiday.
Everyone working in the UK is legally entitled to 4 times their working week as statutory holiday. The employer has a right to dictate when these can or can not take place.

If your daughter has previously informed the employer of these dates and boss has changed her mind then it is extremely unfair and should be raised again with the boss. Unfortunately if your daughter has been working their less than one year she may find herself without a job and no statutory protection for unfair dismissal.

What about the other staff??? Do they take holidays at this busy time?
This is true with any retail workers. The boss gets to decide when you are able to go on vacation. I think atleast Labor Day should be off for absolutely everyone, but that will never happen as there is money to be made. Holidays are the busiest for people who work for customers, usually when all employees have to work.

To Hairdressers: What do you think of your job?

Do you think it was the right thing to do when you decided to become a Hairdresser? I want to take an NVq in hairdressing but my dads against it. You know how hairdressers have a stereotype for being empty headed (which I'm against)? Well my dad believes it. I'm a straight A student but I tyhink Hairdressing is the right path for me. What do you think about taking that career path?To Hairdressers: What do you think of your job?
My mom is a hairdresser and she absolutely loves her job. I've heard that stereotype before and it's completely false. You can actually go very far with that occupation my mom owns her own hair salon and is a very very hard working and successful women. If that's what you think is the right job for you then you should absolutely do it :) Who cares what your dad thinks? He was never a hairdresser so he can't make assumtions on them being ';empty headed';. Do what's right for you :)

Should i go back to the hairdressers then?

my hair is afro and very coarse. got it relaxed a couple of weeks back but only after a week it went back to its usual state.Friends told me to go back and get a refund, others say to go back and ave it redone, others say i shld not trust them but instead ask for them to fix me a weave and then add the difference of cost to their fee....i am fixed to go back there later today but still confused as to wat to do,wat do u say?Should i go back to the hairdressers then?
I am a cosmetologist. You should go in there and ask for the Manager, Tell them the situation that you are in. A mojority of the time, no matter what you want them to do it shouldnt cost you anymore money. If it does, you better hope you didnt sign any speacial agreement that they arent responisble for how your hair turns out c/s u can get a lawyer and fix it in a hurry! Girlfirend, there are many ways to scare a stylist and that is it! just tell her that if she cant fix it, your lawyer will! (as long as u didnt ';sign ur life away!)Should i go back to the hairdressers then?
talk to the people at the salon. you should trust them, its not like the fried your hair or anything. they are the professionals. they know if its safe to reapply or wait. they also know what exactly they used. if u go somewhere else they will have no idea and there will be more room for problems. the salon i work in has a time limit for when things can be redone but i think in this case if it didnt take you should have it fixed.
    Yes, go back!

    cheers!
if ur hair is due for relaxation u should as dem. it also depends on d type of product u use and hw ur hair texture is. lyk me now. i have 2 go relax it in lyk 3months cos my hair will be due. i'm sure that that might be ur own specific tym 2 relax ur hair again. But if u don't want 2 relax it u can get ur hair braided with weavon or attachments 2 last 4 sometime. if u have a specific hairstylist that knows much bout ur hair u can ask him/her questions bout it. or maybe u could braid then later relax ur hair.
They have messed up and are obliged to fix this for you, whatever you decide they should swallow the cost of it, just be firm and pleasant about it,but make sure you get a satisfactory response, you are entitled to their assistance if this is their fault.
Well, that depends on their policy.. did they tell u that the relaxed hair do they gave u, wud last more than a week?? if they did, then yeah, go ask them for a refund.. if not, then go and tell them, that u werent completely satisfied, since the final product ie.. ure hair went back to normal after a week. if they offer to take care of you and work a deal with you.. go ahead and do that. if they say they cant do anything, well, u decide, if its worth getting ure hair done there or somewhere else...

Hairdressers . I want to bring my own comb for my stylist to use on my head . is this against regulations?

All you hairdressers. do you ever have a client to ask you to use their own comb they bring. i want to do this but am feeling like she will think i am crazy . would you think i was crazy?Hairdressers . I want to bring my own comb for my stylist to use on my head . is this against regulations?
It's not against regulation, they may want to sanatize it first.

Most hairstylists are accomidating. It is a little wierd, and if your hairdresser is immature, she will probably make fun of you in the back room after you leave.Hairdressers . I want to bring my own comb for my stylist to use on my head . is this against regulations?
No, but why? scared of germs? Sanitation is a big deal in the cosmetology industry. If you don't feel the salon is sanitary, don't go there
you're not crazy haha . i'm just not 100% sure why you'd want to bring your own comb?? the salon combs are cleaned after every client =]

but i would still use your own comb if you brought it in and asked nicely
    you're not crazy....

it's up to you weather you want to use your own or their comb. I definitely don't want to share combs with others....
no it is not against any regulation...but keep im mind of the stylist who is cutting your hair.. they might feel offended that u think they don't clean there combs//they are the one with the scissors..
i definatly dont think you are crazy. i mean not everyone wants to use a comb that has been through tons of peoples hair.
    ummm why?

pretty sure their combs are better than yours.
Nooo! It's your hair and u r paying for it.

  • When you go to the hairdressers and get 'glossing' done, what does it mean?

Please only answer if you know the proper answer to this. And if you've had glossing done is it any good? When you go to the hairdressers and get 'glossing' done, what does it mean?
if you imagine putting a clear coat of nail polish on your nails. this has the same affect on hair. it is almost like a clear hair dye but is brilliant to give your hair shine etc with no damageWhen you go to the hairdressers and get 'glossing' done, what does it mean?
it gives a lot more shine
yes, it will give your hair a lot more shine. usually last less than a month, but you will really enjoy it. you can also purchase a hair gloss at walgreens cvs sallys and other stores.
they just coat your hair and it makes it shiny and really soft lasts about a month it is awesome while it lasts i say you should go for it!

Would you be upset if you went to a 'trendy' hairdressers and were offered the salon's frump as a stylist?

That's what really gets me about the headscarf case - the girl is a frump; headscarf or no headscarf! It's absurd and surely opens the way for any frumpish girl to complain about not getting a job as a stylist / model / product demonstrator / whatever...Would you be upset if you went to a 'trendy' hairdressers and were offered the salon's frump as a stylist?
I wouldn't have her near me! If she/he doesn't look good and can't be bothered to dress/do their hair then i'm the paying customer and will go elsewhere!Would you be upset if you went to a 'trendy' hairdressers and were offered the salon's frump as a stylist?
Yes, i think you're right. Thanks for choosing my answer!

The whole case is absurd. The woman who ran the hairdressers should be able to employ whoever she feels will best represent her business.

In any interview, employers take a lot of notice or your appearance and whether it fits in with the job you are applying for. That`s only natural, and in some lines of work appearance matters more than others!!

If the girl wants to wear a headscarf, in day to day life, then fine, but it`s hardly projecting the right image for your average hairdressers is it??
I would give the girl with the headscarf a wide berth, its a bit of a contradiction, covering her own her hair, yet training for a career, dressing other woman's hair!!. Take the scarf off woman and live like the woman you are, hair and all. Then you can do my hair.By the way , looks do matter, I would have no confidence in a hairdresser or beautician, if she looked scruffy, and had no pride in her appearance.
If she was a good hairdresser and knew what she was doing I would be quite happy to have the frump rather than the atractive airhead who had just done a year's training at the local further education college and leaves clients looking as if she had attacked their hair with a knife and fork!
Why are you getting so wound up about a headscarf? Let the girl wear what she wants, she's only cutting your hair for goodness sake and she must be qualified to do so! If you're shallow enough to judge by appearance then find another salon.

Add: Judge John...she doesn't have to muslim to wear a headscarf. It could be a bandana style one? Just saying... =]
Considering the price, it is totally unreasonable to expect customers to accept a girl with a headscarf as their stylist.

This is not discrimination, just common sense.
I fail to see how even being a hairdresser in such a salon can co exist with her obviously stident religious beliefs.

I that the beautification of women and displays of vanity were forbidden for muslim women.
Well the whole matter is silly. Quite right imo frumpy!

    I dont do frumpy!!!

I will be interested to see what comes up in ';girlie'; magazines (can u imagine it nothing but a headscarf!!!!!!!!!!!) lol. Penthouse look out.

Is it rude to ake a picture to a hairdressers?

This is not rude at all. People usually take a picture of someone with a hairstyle that they are interested in. When you try to describe your hairstyle to the dresser, they may not understand what you are asking for. So if you bring a picture of a person with the hairstyle, then they can see it and it will be easier for them. Is it rude to ake a picture to a hairdressers?
No it is not rude it helps. I love when someone brings in a picture of themselves like they had this hair 3 years ago and want to go back or when it is out of a book celebrities styles it all helps and they can explain what well look good for you and what won't it does help and its not rude at allIs it rude to ake a picture to a hairdressers?
no not rude at all. we actually prefer a picture to make sure that we are on the samr page because for example red highlights to you might mean something completely different to us. red could be copper, true red, redviolet, burgundy etc..... this is why a picture is best. please bring your pictures of what you like and what you DO NOT LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!
    No way!

Hairdressers like it when you take pictures, so they know what they're aiming for.

Also, they might like to adapt the hair in the picture to fit both their cutting style, and you as well.

So basically, it's not rude, so take a picture :)
I don't think so. Some people don't know how to articulate. A picture gives a more precise description for those of us that are horrible at articulating. Also, visual aids are always helpful.
No! They actually appreciate it, because people try explaining what they want, and don't always get it because they pictured it wrong. So it's just an extra guideline for them.

    :]
    no

thats what i have to do.

all the books that they have at salons are like 5 years old so its smart to bring your own picture.
its not rude but you cant expect them to get it right on the dot because everyone has different hair and face structure so your hair really wont look like that picture!
No i do it all the time. It just helps them so they now what you really want.
not at all. most actually find it quite helpful because they know exactly what you want.
Not at all. It is actually more helpful to the hairdresser to see what it is exactly you want.

    Hope this helps!
No.. why would it be.. ? They need to know how you wanna look i think its helpful.. not rude..
not at all, I always do it and they say they love it when people bring in pics!
NO we love it when you do, it helps us out so much, cause then there is no mis communication at all. So bring in a few!!!

Can i get a semi permenant colour at the hairdressers? or is it only permenant they do?

and if i get semi-permenant, how long will it take to wash out?Can i get a semi permenant colour at the hairdressers? or is it only permenant they do?
I get semis done all the time at the hairdresser. It is more gentle than permanent. It will fade pretty well within 1-2 months. Can i get a semi permenant colour at the hairdressers? or is it only permenant they do?
Semi-permanent color usually last six to eight weeks, depending on the brand and your hair type. And yes, most hairstylists are very accommodating. If I want to try a particular brand I just purchase it and bring it over for them to try on my hair--it's less expensive, because you're covering for most of the material cost that they usually charge you for with a little extra. Still, I suggest consulting with a hairstylist first, especially if you've been with them a while and they know your hair. I, for instance, wish I'd listened to my stylist when she said copper blond wasn't my color. (~.^)

    Good luck! (~.^)
You can get semi-permanent or henna dye at a salon, it usually takes 10-15 washes until you will need to dye it again. The good thing is that pro's always do a really good job! :)
No i think they only do permenant but u can get semi-permenant in chemists and do it yourself!!!

For all the hairdressers out there- best shampoo for cheap?

What is the best brand of shampoo/conditioner you can buy at the store e.i. Walmart, Target? I don't really want to spend a fortune at the salon on products. Any recomendations? For all the hairdressers out there- best shampoo for cheap?
Redken..and you can by that at walmart, target, ans salons. most of their products are above 10.00 but they are well worth itFor all the hairdressers out there- best shampoo for cheap?
I bought this shampoo called infusion at walmart and its great my hair is so soft and not dry feeling and i dye my hair alot =)
VO 5 is good - just be sure to pair it with a VO5 conditioner as well. there are different types and they are VERY inexpensive. I even use Suave

and Pantene is pretty good too although a little pricier
    Suave
garnier frutis sleek and shine omg! it makes my hair do wonders!
I LOVE THERMASILK BUT IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR HAIR ITS REALLY A MATTER OF WHAT WILL WORK FOR YOUR HAIR
definatly Aussie. it helps keep your hair hydrated and it rehydrates if you need to. plus have they have a whole ling of products. however you can also go to the hair salon and get redken for like 25.00... im not sure how much you want to pay but if your cheap and you want somthing that works awsome get aussie. you wont be disappointed.

you never mentioned your hair type but if you have frizzy hair get frizz ease by john freida. that works so well. its it will all be under 10.00

    good luck,

let me know what you ended up with,

    katie
Well if you don't mind spending $5-6 a bottle, then Pantene Pro-v Smooth and sleek.

But if that's too much, Tresseme is okay.

It just depends on your hair.
suave or pantene I love pantene because it is great and affordable, your hair is your everyday look. You can buy an ugly dress and put it in the back of your closet, but hair is there 24-7, make a good judgement

  • Question for hairdressers, people who know about hair?

I recently got a job in Sally's Salon Services, and I know quite a bit about nails and waxing but nothing about hair. My manager told me not to worry as most people know exactly what they're looking for anyway, but hair dye confuses me. Could anyone explain to me the numbers, and the differences between peroxide etc, and toners? Thank you :)Question for hairdressers, people who know about hair?
The higher the number on the peroxide developer, the more lift you will get. 10 volume is no lift (from light to dyed dark hair), 20 is moderate lift (like going from light brown to dark blonde - best for most hair colors), 30 is high lift (going from medium brown to blonde) and 40 is high high lift, ( going from dark brown to blonde).

Semi and demi permanent are no-lift, you don't use any peroxide, the color just goes on the existing hair.

To Professional Hairdressers(nothing against the average joe just want a good opinion)?

Ok, I'm 14 years old and My mom has cherokee Indian and Itailian in her blood, she has naturally wavy/curly hair so curly that she could take her finger and twist it and a curl would pop out! My dad on the other hand had a father with a very fine wavy set of hair, but his hair turned out nappy. So i'm born with nappy hair even though this seems unlikely, since these hair types are in my blood can i change my nappy/kinky hair to a very wavy or curly set permanently? My mom also has damaged her hair from perms so now her hair is straight and bad and dry, I was wondering if she could damage her hair, could I reverse it and make my hair wavy/curly?To Professional Hairdressers(nothing against the average joe just want a good opinion)?
You can't change your hair type or texture permanently. All you can do is use chemicals to soften the curl (one option is a texturizer, other is curl reformation - some people still call it a Jeri Curl) or make it stronger, or relax it out completely. Since I don't know what you mean exactly by ';nappy'; hair, I can't really help you much. Go to a salon and tell the stylist, once she gets a hands on look at your hair, she can give you the best recomendation. Your mother probably needs a protein treatment and frequent deep conditioners.

Ok, since you say your ';nappy'; hair is like natural ethnic hair, you would go for a texturizer. It softens the curl pattern and creates a strong wave rather than a real CURL.

What do you think about ';new talent'; hairdressers?

I just booked an appointment with a new talent stylist because it was $35 which sounded reasonable the senior stylist was $46, im nervous that they are not good, what do you think? What do you think about ';new talent'; hairdressers?
Typically, someone fresh out of beauty school spends 2 years as an assistant to a stylist, in order to gain knowledge and second-hand experience. That said, a ';new talent'; hairstylist will probably have at least 2 years of salon experience, but has only recently been given the freedom to cut and style hair without the direct supervision of a stylist. Chances are, they are familiar with basic cutting and styling techniques that they learned in beauty school, or ones that they may have picked up from other senior stylists, but they will not necessarily have the eye or natural talent to give you a magnificent haircut that you would get from a senior stylist, who may have 5, 10, or 15 years more experience.

Paying $11 more is definintely worth going with a senior stylist, especially if the cut is under $50 (don't forget to tip), especially since I'm used to paying no less than $80 for a cut. With a ';new talent'; stylist, you can expect to get a decent haircut....a ';nice'; haircut rather than a ';wow!'; haircut. What do you think about ';new talent'; hairdressers?
The more you pay for a stylist the more senior they are which means they have more training or higher quaification, New talent probably means they have just finished their training and may not have much experience.

Generally speaking you get what you pay for.
idk, you should see other people who got their hair done by that person, i let this one lady do my hair [and i never seen anyone (but dudes) who got their hair done by her] and i got this mullet thing when i asked for choppy layers, and a really bad bleach job :/

You should just be able to use normal hair dye. Just be aware that because it's over blonde the colour will most likely fade a couple of shades in the first few weeks after you've died it.

Is your scalp sore when your hairdressers cut your hair?

I'm very tender-headed myself. The slightest pull or brush makes my eyes water. For that reason alone, I would suggest finding a new hairdresser. Any decent hairdresser would insure NOT to inflict pain on their clients! You're only getting a haircut. I wouldn't even put myself through that. And I have never even heard of that ';90% in your head and 10% on your scalp'; nonsense. She must've really wanted your money. Definitely find someone else.

Hairdressers! Looking for guidelines for cutting scene hair?

I am interested in cutting scene hair. I am trying to figure out with just a picture what kind of layers there are. Round layers?

Any one can give me tips on how to do this. I am trying to do this on a 13 yr old girl with long hair.

Thanks for anything you can provide.Hairdressers! Looking for guidelines for cutting scene hair?
    1. Choppy, straight, pointy layers.

    2. Take a piece of hair, then take a razor, and just start from where she wants the shortest layers and just go down. That will create the effect.

Hope I helped :DHairdressers! Looking for guidelines for cutting scene hair?
first of all, you sound ridiculous. there is no such thing as ';scene'; hair and that was a short lived fad that should've perished by now, derived from ';punk'; culture.

you're wondering about layered/razored styles with vibrant colors, and that would be a more appropriate way to ask this question. do not attempt hair cutting if you don't know what you're doing or have a license. since you had to phrase this question so ridiculously, i'm going to tell you to not even try - but if you do, usually razors are involved as well as scissors and thinning shears depending on the thickness of the hair.

this question is ridiculous, though. bring a photo of the type of haircut the 13 year old wants to a fun, ';edgy'; hair stylist and explain carefully so they can examine her hair type and see if the cut is even achievable on her. and yes, i am a stylist.
Just go on MySpace or photobucket. There's TONS of pictures of scene hair.

Or, if you're familiar w/ the salon ';Toni %26amp; Guy';, you could ask them. They specialize in those kinds of haircuts %26amp; would know how to explain it to you. Good luck! :)

you must be desperate for some answers you posted this question three times

How do I change hairdressers without totally offending her. I am in a small town.?

Do you know her schedule? Maybe need an appointment when she is off. And then if you run into her just let her know either you needed a hair cut when she was off and were lucky to find someone else who was talented. or if you didn't like the new one go back. That is a tough situation but If you are like me it can get pretty pricey and you have every right to pick someone you are happy with. My friend switched to a stylist in the next chair- that takes guts but my stylist wasn't upset because she is confident in her abilities and knew that for the type of styles my friend was looking for (brighter hair colors like purple and punk styles that the other person would do a great job. Hope it goes well!

I had a friend who once invited about 10 of us for a lunch out. It cost him around 200$ that they but he didn't pay a penny as tip. Some other guy among us found it inappropriate and tipped the girl 5 bucks.

So if you think you don't need to pay the tip, don't pay.

In that case there should be a tip JAR otherwise NO.

When you go to a restaurant you don't walk behind the scenes and leave a tip for the chef and all his helpers either.
Umm... wow. Usually the same person works on my hair the entire time. I also don't think tipping is as expected in the hairdresser industry as it is food service.
No. You tip your stylist and the person who washes your hair (if it's someone OTHER than your stylist). That's it. And if your stylist is the owner of the salon, you do not tip them.
no only the one who did your hair and the one who washed it and there is one coffee maker in a hairdressers place in america
No, you tip the person who washes your hair, and you tip your beautician.
Oh come on, don't be so naive. You tip the person who did your hair and the one who washed it, period.
I go to a barber, and I just tip the one who cut my hair.
Eh..No...You tip only the person who styled your hair.

How securely are hairdressers mirrors attatched to the wall?

I am a VERY anxious person, and I was in the hairdressers earlier (don't ask, lol) and I was tapping the metal footrest thing against the wall under the mirror. Not *very* hard, but it was still touching the wall and I wasn't sure exactly how forceful it was.

The mirror is a little shorter than the height of the wall it's on, and is secured to the wall near the top and bottom.

I'm worried that somehow the mirror is going to fall off the wall, or something like that.

Is it possible for this to happen? I assume these mirrors are attatched firmly to the wall to prevent this happening... maybe...

Anyone? Cheers :o)How securely are hairdressers mirrors attatched to the wall?
There is no standard. You are entirely dependent on the whim of the interior decorator who designed the salon. Next time you're there, just jiggle and pull on it to convince yourself it's safe or not. They will think you're crazy, so just explain that, yes, you are indeed crazy :-)How securely are hairdressers mirrors attatched to the wall?
It does not matter where the mirror is, you show good sense in being concerned about how secure the mirror is mounted, glass is very heavy and dangerous, it probably is safe but stay well away from it if you have doubts.
I think that's a safe assumption - mirrors are expensive, and law suits are even more so!

Is it normal to bring in pictures of the hair style you want into a hairdressers?

Yes, It is very normal, you should usually come in with an example or the hairdresser sometimes will be mixed up and get it wrong. I had to learn that the hard way (don't worry, my hair grew back though lmao)

Good Luck!Is it normal to bring in pictures of the hair style you want into a hairdressers?
It's a good suggestion. At least that way they have a pretty much black-and-white idea of what you want, not some concoction you drew in your head and which will inevitably end up being different from how they saw it to what you wanted.

Best not to go with a Rachel style if you look like Phoebe though :) At least if they know there's no way you're going to be able to achieve the look you've shown, they can tactfully point you in another direction.

And in my case, I don't bring anything in. I don't have enough hair to be able to do that :[Is it normal to bring in pictures of the hair style you want into a hairdressers?
Yes, it's a good idea. I did just that recently to ensure that she knew what I wanted and to get her opinion on whether the style and cut would best suit my my face and hair type. And by bring more one picture could also ensure that the hairdresser sees the style from different angles and possibly make their own recommendations on how to get the best cut from your new style.
When I want my hair done, I bring a pic to show exactly what I want. Then there's no doubt about the hairstyle I ask for, because it is a difficult look.

Here, check it here, I'm the one on the right - http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl鈥?/a>
It's normal, and I think they would love it for every customer to bring some pictures in. When I went, I just sent a picture to my phone of the haircut I want %26amp;%26amp; showed the hairdresser.
Yes that's what I do when I want something different. I usually print out pictures from the internet or bring a hair magazine with me.
Absoloutely normal, expected, and a good idea.
Thats what i do (but then she gose on to cut my hair in a completly unrelated style)
    yes its normal

Has any one done work experence in a hairdressers ?

are you expected to ware your hair dow nand lots of makeup?

    What did you do there?

    %26amp; was it good?

10 points to best answer (=Has any one done work experence in a hairdressers ?
If you're doing work experience in a hairdressers your hair has to look good, so make a little extra effort. You could scrape it back in a neat but, curl it or straighten it... Or maybe you have some different ideas, it's up to you! As for makeup I don't think it matters - just wear it as you usually do.

When I did my work experience at a hairdressers all I really did was sweep the floor, make tea, wash hair %26amp; help the hairdressers with foil strips and perm rods. You're not allowed to do anything to the hair. It's really interesting though as they let me watch and talked me through what they were doing, and how they were doing it. It's a very social job, so it's lots of fun and involves lots of interesting conversation.

Hope you have fun! 鈾?xHas any one done work experence in a hairdressers ?
i have worked in a salon as a work placement it was fun

but you have to go to the salon presentable so that means hair tidy as that is what is going to be your proffesion ans its no good you having untidy unkept hair its up to you if you wear make up if you were gonna be a beauty therapist it would be a must ,some days i was treated like a general dogs body making clients tea and other days it would be tea making but also you would shampoo the client for the stylist i was allowed to take perming rods out after i had neutralised the perm it is fun but its like any thing their are good and bad things that we always like and dislike about our jobs etc but im sure you will have a great time learning the proffesion of hairdressing and you just wait till you learn color enjoy your self if you get the chance learn nvq 2+3 and barbering its more qualifications for you
i worked in a hairdresses for my palcement 2 months ago, although it was a private placement i dont think it makes any difference. i think as long as you look presentable then its fine, dont wear loads of make up it will scare people just make sure its nice and natural i suppose. as with hair i either for my down and straight or up in a ponytail, just dont look a mess and youll be fine :) hope this helps x
your hair obviously has to be styled. curled, straightened, updo %26amp; so on. you have to have make up on,but not alot.i like mine to look natural i try %26amp; stay free of he cake face it looks gross.i'm a stylist.%26amp; there is one girl tht works there %26amp; she nvr does her make up or hair %26amp; when ppl look @ her they are like..nvm i will go somewhere else.bc she doesnt look presentable.%26amp; if a stylist doesnt attempt to do their own hair..what does that say bout their skills ya know.
well if it's looks good then its yes but if not it's a no so there's the answer

Got back from hairdressers and have a sore neck on both sides, crunching sound when turning head?

I went to the hairdressers and after i came back my neck feels sore on both sides,,,,like stretched muscles....possibly from leaning head back over the basin. Also when i turn my head from side to side there is a crunching noiseGot back from hairdressers and have a sore neck on both sides, crunching sound when turning head?
I know that feeling... that too has happened to me, have a warm shower and let the water run down the back of your neck.....that usually helps, it should go away soon.
  • good makeup
  • Do they scrub your head at the hairdressers and pull it a tad while cuttiing it? ?

i like my cut and the stylist is great. havent got a cut in a long time. but i think she just pulled a little to much. how is your hairdresser when she cuts your hair?Do they scrub your head at the hairdressers and pull it a tad while cuttiing it? ?
Yes, believe it or not that is how we are trained. We are trained to massage your head. My teacher uses the metaphor 'squeeze the lemons.' And we have to pull your hair a little (add tension) while cutting the hair because we need to make the hair straight so it's all the same length. If you notice, your hair dresser will also cut at different angles too(90,45, and 180 degrees are the most common), that is also to make the hair the same length.Do they scrub your head at the hairdressers and pull it a tad while cuttiing it? ?
Well, you need to be firm with the hair to make sure you get it all even. Sometimes it may seem as if they are pulling it, but they are making sure all the hair is combed perfectly even and then held even so they can give you an even cut. There are times I've seen someone come from the cutters with bits and pieces sticking out here and there... like they got missed. If it is painful, you should say something about that. Pressure is not the same as painful.

';Scrub'; is not a word I would use when referring to shampooing your hair! The shampoo needs to be massaged through each and every hair to get it clean. They always use the soft pads of the fingers to do that. If they have more power than they know, then it can be painful. Again, you should say something. Some people like a very firm shampoo, some like a light touch. You have to let them know.

';My scalp is rather tender today for some reason. Be a little more gentle on me today.'; That should work.

Is there any way to make the redness of my dyed hair fade away? hairdressers please help?

i recently went from natural light brown hair to blonde... i hated it, so i had them try to match my natural color again. they did a pretty good job, except my hair pulls red really bad and it looks too red. I naturally have red highlights but this is too red! is there any way to make the redness fade some? any product i can use? or should i have them try to dye it again? Is there any way to make the redness of my dyed hair fade away? hairdressers please help?
The worst thing you could do is dye your hair too much..You just have to wait it out and let it fade a little. With semi permenent color, you can just wash it, the more you wash the lighter the color becomes until it is all gone.Is there any way to make the redness of my dyed hair fade away? hairdressers please help?
You can use a clarifying shampoo to strip some of the red out, or find a salon that uses Redken PreArt and have them use it a few times. You can have them try it again but I would have them wait a few weeks. Be sure they use a color that has a green or blue base.

    Reasonably priced hairdressers in Melbourne?

I need a reasonably priced hair stylist in the Melbourne CBD ( or inner suburbs) who works well with short hair cuts on women. I am a student so nothing too expensive. Thanks!Reasonably priced hairdressers in Melbourne?
The hairdresser i go to is Claire Francoise Salon which is an excellent hairdressing salon. It cost about $75 for a cut, shampoo and style of 45min of hair pampering.

If you want to go for something cheaper i would reccomend Hair Room Salons which would cost about $30 for short hair.

Whats the best way to get rid of nits i cannot go to hairdressers?

cos i get them off the kids from school and treat them and they come back again.Whats the best way to get rid of nits i cannot go to hairdressers?
After you have done the conditioner and comb and finally got rid of them spray tea tree oil diluted with water in your hair every day. I do this with my daughter and she is the only one in nursery who has never got nits. Otherwise you will have to shave your head like I did to my sons.

Whatever happened to the nit nurses we use to have when I was at school?Whats the best way to get rid of nits i cannot go to hairdressers?
I used an electronic nit comb - you use it on dry hair and it zaps the nits on contact. There's no mess, you use it every day, it only takes a few minutes to use, and you can use it on yourself.

Wash all bedlinen, if you have a bad problem with them, thow out all your pillows and get new ones. Don't forget to wash cushion covers as well, if you have fabric couches, and wash all coats, jackets and clothes in hot water.

Continue to use the 'zapper' for about three weeks, just to be sure. Then use it once a week after that to be sure you're all free of them for good!
    Hi!

    Lyclear is brilliant stuff!

I gets rid of nits within ten minutes!

    Best of luck!
Over the counter treatments don't work !!

Try the good old fashioned way... Nitty Gritty comb, lots of conditioner and spend a good 45 Min's combing the hair !!

Repeat this method at least 3 times a week.

    It works for our family

    Good luck
try using teatree oil shampoo and conditioner - they dont like it.

Apparently they are becoming immune to the main ingredient in most nit shampoos.
Unfortunately the head lice are becoming increasingly resistant to the common treatments like malathion. Older managements like benzyl benzoate are more toxic but more successful. It is also worth while investing in a decent STEEL nit comb. The problem is currently so great that Sainsbury's are now stocking an excellent one.
My sister has the same problem, shes used every shampoo and herbal remedy known to man i think. They say some nits are now immune to the normal remedies so its time to go back to the nit comb. That or have it all shaved off. Sorry thats a rubbish answer, but its becoming a huge problem in schools.
Just get a good quality nit comb and do it in the morning and at night , for about 2 weeks !!
try going to a pharmacist he can suggest treatments
Shave head. Buy special shampoo. Or liked they used to, shave head and wash hair with kerosine.
Buy some RID (chemical that kills nits),Vaseline all over hair

Its messy,or if boy shave whole head.
use full marks lotion. leave on for 20 mins then comb out with a good nit comb. try to get a metal one. Keep combing for a week afterwards to get out any stray eggs. Once they are all gone use tea tree shampoo and conditioner and a tea tree spray becaue the little cooties hate the stuff and it'll stop u getting them again. Failing that change schools!!!!
First off, you need to treat all of the family members at the same time. Wash all the bedding, stuffed animals, clothes and linens in hot water and use the dryer (dont hang dry). Whatever you cannot wash you need to bag up for 2 weeks. You will also need to spray all of your furniture and mattresses.

When you use the nit shampoo, make sure that you also use the nit comb and after that, check the head for lice and eggs that the comb missed.
wash your hair with white vinigar. it smells but works
  • good makeup
  • Who else besides me washes their hair to go to the hairdressers?

I do - I wash it the day before.

I used to be a hairdresser and prior to that, used to be a junior and had to wash peoples hair - I don't think people realise how disgusting the smell of their greasy scalp and hair is when the hot water hits it and wafts the smell up into the nose of the poor junior!!Who else besides me washes their hair to go to the hairdressers?
I try to wash mine the night before if I am having a cut and blow dry, but if I am having a colour then the morning before, as it doesn't take so well on very clean hair.

I couldn't go with dirty hair, they ould think I was a minger!

Also, the wash before I go, I give my hair a thorough comb with the nit comb and conditioner. I have two kids school age and I am terrifed of her finding lice or eggs. i have never had them, neither have my kids, I think because I do the conditoner/comb process on them every school night, but I know if they did find any, I'd be asked to leave immediately, whatever stage my hair cut was at. I'd be mortified!

I also remove my earrings and necklaces and make sure I don't wear a collar or halter top.Who else besides me washes their hair to go to the hairdressers?
As a hairdresser - I would say there is no need to wash your hair first, unless it is really greasy, and you are having a dry/wet cut, if you are having a wash, cut and blow dry, there is nothing more satisfying then having someone walk into the salon looking rough, and leaving looking a million dollars.

My advise to you all is to not stress about it.
I normally do - and I learnt the hard way not to do it before having your hair bleached. When I had short hair I used to do an all over bleach at the hairdressers, washed my hair in the morning, went along and got bleached - ended up with blisters on my forehead and scalp! Ouchie!
Ha ha, i do too! I could not bear the thought of my hairdresser seeing me with dirty hair! Although, my friend is a hair dresser and she said she actuallyprefers it when women dont wash their hair before they come it. Its apparently more managable when its a little greasy.
I do too, and put make up on.

Well, your sat in really garish light in front of a mirror surrounded by immaculately turned out women.

I feel extra scruffy in the hairdressers, and it makes me buy extra treatments.
why would you if you are giong for a cut and blow dry i would if it was a dry cut but you are paying them to wash it, but i always do it the night before and straighten it before i go so that it looks neat and tidy
I do because my best friend is a mobile hairdresser and does my hair in my home. I do it for two reasons: 1) I have to bend over the bath and it hurts my neck and 2) It gives us more time to have a cup of tea before she dashes off to her next client.
I do, so they can just cut it and blow dry it. It saves time as I hate going to the hairdresser's. Most of the time though, they end up washing my hair again.
haha I do that too, actually I'm going today and have to jump in the shower soon before I go...I don't know why I do it, I guess so the hairdresser doesnt think I'm dirty or something
I do that before I go to the Barber. I don't like to be seen with hair that needs washing. Especially by someone that is going to touch it.
lol i do i washed it on friday morning dryed and straightened it went to hairdressers friday afternoon had it washed dryed and styled i'd be too embarassed to go with greasy hair
Well i do my hair nice to go to the hair dressers lol. i tihnk i do it to make it easier for them to cut. lol
Yeah, I always do that. I like to leave with my hair looking the best it can when I get a cut, not looking like I need a wash!

    :)
I don't use hairdressers and only colour my hair with henna (no chemicals on my scalp please)
Sometimes i do because my hairdresser chews gum while he washes my hair so im afraid it may get in my hair. Plus he has B.O. LOL!!

    .:Hope this helps:.
yes, cant have my hairdresser too afraid to touch my hair! have to look as perfect as i can for looking in those sodding mirrors!
I always do. But I am only going to the barbers and I think clean hair cuts better.
hey me too...that's only because i always go to the same salon (so the hairdressers know me)
yes i do i dont want the hairdressers 2 think i dont wash my hair!!
I never do - I always wash i the day before though, so that it's not too dirty and not too clean!
Haha, sometimes I do that to make a good impression!
No, they wash it there anyway. Specially if you tell them to wash your hair.
Lol yeah :) I hate going to the hairdressers with horrible hair !
I do, don't want the hairdresser thinking I don't wash my hair lol
32 answers HOLY SHIZA!! you must be like the most sexyist thing that ever lived!!! lol
Unfortunately I do. I think it's just force of habit!
Me!!... well it would be horrible for them to have to handle a head of greasy dirty hair
yep i do coz then they think that you kept your hair nice you know , your not alone !!
No there is no point unless you are just having a dry cut!
    I do.

I don't want to turn up at the hairdressers with greesy hair!

try a glaze.....they look great and dont dry out your hair! they last as long as you want them to! i have dark brown hair but in the summer it gets a little faded making it look brassy so i just use a glaze. you can do it yourself or go to a salon for it! super simple!
Washing powder or soap solution will strip it just make sure you wash with a good shampoo straight after.
use Goldwell System Hair Color Remover: http://www.goldwellusa.com/products/hair鈥?/a>
I went for semi permanent, but it's still like this almost a year later....

    or dye over it.

Is the bleach used by hairdressers the same as the ''do-it-yourself'' kits?

If not what is the difference between the two?Is the bleach used by hairdressers the same as the ''do-it-yourself'' kits?
It's not the same almost at all. When you get your hair bleached in salons, there is a back room that they mix many different things. Hair stylists have to learn the codes of hair colors and what of those to mix together to get the exact right color and bleach is made the same way. There are many steps in creating the bleach, and they buy it in bulk from a good quality company. They have also been trained in the proper way to bleach hair. The last thing is, stylists use something called toner, which adds a more natural color to the bleach, and toner can't be bought in stores, only used in salons.

Tip: Don't bleach your hair at home.Is the bleach used by hairdressers the same as the ''do-it-yourself'' kits?
There isn't much of a difference. Bleach kits come with developer and powdered bleach. Developer comes in different weights, like 20, 30, and 40. Professionals know which strength would be best for your hair texture, condition, and the desired shade. With bleach kits, the weight usually isn't specified--if it's too strong, your hair can dry out, too weak and your hair may turn red or will not be light enough.
The bleach in the hair salons is more concentrated than the bleach sold at the drug store.
I think it's the same. Gives the same outcome that is. Only diff. is that the hairdressers do it --sometimes better.

My Hair is very dry after i went to the hairdressers?

I went to the hairdressers to do my hair and he used the hair-drying %26amp; then using Bala_i_oar iron electricity, and after three days I washed my hair and I found I could demobilized and dry limbs %26amp; I but on my hair cream but the result is the same 鈥?what can I doMy Hair is very dry after i went to the hairdressers?
oh well tell your hairdresser not to use that iron on ur hair again. you can try:

    - putting a hair cream in to moisturise your hair

    - use leave in condition

    - i know this sounds weird but i did it the other day to test it and i put conditioner in before i had my shower, didnt wet my hair or antyhing just put it straight on my head, then went and came back in 5 minutes and had my shower, it felt weird but when i washed it it was really really smoothe

    - there are hair masks you can also put in your hair

maybe also try just leaving ur hair naturally for a few days to recover and talk to your hairdresser if its still bad, they have all the stuff you need and can help you out.My Hair is very dry after i went to the hairdressers?
i have used many many shampoos and conditoners. the best for my dry hair is from AVON. yes AVON. try it, what do you have to lose. lol. it works real well on my hair. and my hair is dry and frizzy until i started using AVON shampoo and conditioner
Aloe Vera,is a good remedy for dry hair. It is obtained from the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant. Break the leaf and squeeze out the liquid inside, apply this liquid to your scalp, keep for about an hour and wash it off . Check out http://solutionsfordryhair.blogspot.com/ for more info.
same thing with my mum it lasts for about 1 - 2 weeks but it actually looks nice if u noe how to do it
deep condition your hair. try joico i think they sell it at ulta. also ive never heard of that iron. dont let them use it on you again. chi makes the best flat irons in the world. theyre costly but they come with a lifetime warranty.
go to a health shop and get some deep conditioning creme. cover all your hair with it and put a hot towel on your head, or put the creme in your hair while having a bath because the steam will activate it.

The same happened to me, use the creme every day for about a week, it'll work wonders.

How much would it cost me at a hairdressers to have my hair dyed jet black with pink streaks and feathered ?How much would it cost me at a hairdressers ...?
make a list of the salons you want to go to

    and call them and ask

spicify your hair length and texture ect as well as current color

my best advice is for you to do it yourself

all you need to buy is some hair bleech and the pink hair dye, and of course the black hair dye.

you would need to go to a beauty store yourself and experiment

its cheaper and youll have some left for later..How much would it cost me at a hairdressers ...?
dependin on the salon.. a single process color can range from 50-100 then highlights another 60-100 and a cut can be anywhere from 40-70. I would call different salons for prices.
depending on what city your in the prices can vary.

but typically a dye job and styling shouldnt be more than about $60-90.

but of course if you to a high-end salon.....itll cost more.

How do i thin my hair need hairdressers/your help please help ?

i have really thick hair, when i was younger a stylist thinned my hair with scissor. It didnt look that good. it was thick on the top and thin on the bottom. whats the best way somewhat thin your hair out so it isnt that thick, what do i tell my stylist. can you tell me about the thinning scissor, what do they do. WIll it harm my hair??or damage it?How do i thin my hair need hairdressers/your help please help ?
it gets thicker on top and thinner on bottom because what they are basically doing is cutting the top layer of your hair shorter, so that there is less hair on the bottom. there is no way to avoid this. sorry! How do i thin my hair need hairdressers/your help please help ?
Thinning scissors are great!!! i use them myself all the time! look up a picture of them on the internet and you will get how they work. They are definately not bad for your hair!
    Get layers!

    %26amp;

    Straighten your hair!
I am a hairdresser and for one dont go buy a razor and do it your self! For one no one with curly have should ever use a razor it will only make curly have frizzy! Thinning scissors are great!! They dont damage your hair its just like cutting it but not taking a straight line out. Tell your stylist to use the thinning shears she can do just a few inches from the root all the way down. So its not just at the bottom they work with dry hair also So have her style it how you would then use the thnning shears till it lays as thin as you want it. You can take out as much as you want with them!
you can buy a hair razor(they sell em at any beauty store) and their pretty cheap $2-$5.

once you have that just start razoring in between your hair.

do it slowly at first so that you dnt get chunks of hair off. and then you'll start to notice that its getting thinner..

Does anyone know of a hairdressers in Cardiff that need ';models'; for trainees?

I need my hair coloured but really don't have the cash to spend 拢60, so I thought I'd try finding a trainee to do it on the cheap.Does anyone know of a hairdressers in Cardiff that need ';models'; for trainees?
if theres a college nr you tht does hair and beauty training, they are always lookin for clients.

better yet - if there is a college, ask if they do NVQ Level 3 training and book yaself into that session - hairdresser who are doing NVQ Level 3 are students who are all ready fully qualified and have had a minimum of a yrs salon experience, and they are just learning advanced skills in colour and cutting so you get the fully qualified hairdresser at trainee prices :o)Does anyone know of a hairdressers in Cardiff that need ';models'; for trainees?
It doesn't really work that way usually, just go to a school that teaches it, and they offer full services for a pretty cheap price.
hiya, most hair dresser needs modals, just go in and ask at the shop.some puts signs in there window, but not all of them do.so go in and ask them.
Contact Toni %26amp; Guy - they often need hair models for their staff workshops

Why do I get so nervous going to the hairdressers?

Whenever I go to the hairdressers, I always get really nervous that it isn't going to look good, literally to the point where I sometimes feel really sick sitting in the hairdressing chair, my hairdresser is really nice and really good so I don't understand why I get so dramatic about it!

Tomorrow I'm finally cutting my long hair into a cute bob for a nice change, but now I'm suddenly getting all this jittery doubtfulness again, someone say something to snap me out of being so damn pathetic, please!

Never seen a guy with blonde highlights?

    Wow.

Anyways, I don't understand your question, but I'm guessing it's what to ask of your Hair dresser?

I usually save a picture off the internet onto my phone and take it to them, or well if you want to go plantinum then just say that.

I think it's easier for them to know what you want if you take a picture as reference. Idk hope I helped some.
your a guy, and you want blonde highlights ?

    Wow,

95% of the hairdressers in my town are English Challenged Immigrants, common?

The lady who use to cut my hair has moved out of town and replaced by an immigrant. I love immigrants but not ones who cut hair. So many of the hairstylists that I have gone to so far are English challenged immigrants who I struggle trying to communicate with.

I have done a survey of my friends and relatives here in the Washington DC area and it seems like everyone is going to immigrants, and white people have left the field. Is this true in your hometown?95% of the hairdressers in my town are English Challenged Immigrants, common?
Not where I live north of Detroit. Although most nails are done by the Asian community. Try going more to the suburbs, check the demographics at City-Data it will give you a better idea of the area.95% of the hairdressers in my town are English Challenged Immigrants, common?
You should see what it's like here in Texas.......

Brown to blonde hair without bleaching or visiting hairdressers?

hello, i dyed by hair black about 3-4 months ago and most of it has gone and i am left with a dark brown colour. I am natrually a light brown. Can i go blonde now without bleaching or visiting the hairdressers as i dont like visiting hairdressers much! thanks people =]Brown to blonde hair without bleaching or visiting hairdressers?
If dye your hair blonde from brown with a regular box of hair dye it's gonna come out reddish brown. I had the same color brown and then dyed it blonde, that's what happened. You need to bleach it first, which i recommend a salon from expierence, and then do it a dirty blonde first and work your way from there. Believe me, if you do that you'll make a mistake you'll regret. It took me 5 months to get the light natural blonde i wanted.Brown to blonde hair without bleaching or visiting hairdressers?
if you buy blonde hair dye it would only make your hair lighter and if you bleach it it might turn yellowish so it may be possible just to dye it blonde but its best to get it done professionally... even if you dont like going to hairdressers..
you can dye your hair but id be careful as it may turn a greenish color if you go ahead make sure you get a really good hair dye good luck

Why are gay men more inclined to be hairdressers or interior decoratorsrs?

    Good question.

A lot of gay men and women tend to be more artistic than straight people in general. I think it has a lot to do with the way they grow up, expressing they're feelings, etc. A lot of men are taught from society not to show emotion (i.e, cry) and it represses their emotions. A lot of art is based on emotions. Therefor, when you are repressed you tend to lack artistic sense and creativity.

Gay men are known to be more ';sensitive';, generally speaking. They are more open and aware of their feelings and artistic abilities. Also notice that most straight artists have no problem with homosexuals and can even get along very well with them.

And yes. Cosmetology(including hairdressing) and interior decorators are both forms of art.

hope this helped. Why are gay men more inclined to be hairdressers or interior decoratorsrs?
You're asking a gay forklift driver who works in a warehouse why we are inclined to be hairdressers or interior designers. I find that silly.

    :)

For those who are, it's because they either have the talent or good taste. Why are gay men more inclined to be hairdressers or interior decoratorsrs?
if you look very closely there are a lot of us working in the medical field.

I work in two different fields myself. that is emergency medicine (ambulance) and law enforcement.

we all have different talents, some of us are more artistic then others.
They are generally more creative than straight men (pertaining to aesthetics)?

They are not afraid that people will think they're gay (because people already know that's the truth)?

    There are many possible reasons.
i think thats more of a stereotypicle kind of thing . because most of the gay guys i know happen to be rather straight acting . not that there arent ones that have those intrests
Ummm what the f***!? That is the WORST generalization I have heard in a LONG time.

I know heaps of gay people and none of them want to do ANY of that stuff.

    Tsk tsk, silly person.
i think it depends not all gay people are inclied to that, its probably has something to do with art and stuffs and colors w/c gay men are defeintely good at. styeling etc. etc. right??

    but of course not all
    I am a cook!

My partner is in school going for a computer IT degree.

In fact all the gay friends both of us have, NONE are hairdressers OR interior decorators. Ummmm
Don't look at me, I'm a gay carnie!! I walk around all greasy and mess with heavy equiptment!! :@)
I don't know, but I'm a damn good hairstylist if I do say so myself.
