Hairdressers - What can I do to my black hair ?

Hi

I had my hair dyed 'natural black' its number 2 in hairdressing terms.

It was a semi (they said lasting about 24 washes) but because my hair is naturally very dark brown anyway its stayed in and hasnt really faded at all.

Is there anything I can do to change it slightly? Id like some streaks put into it. Either in brown or blonde. Is this possible over this colour? Or what would you suggest?

Advice please.Hairdressers - What can I do to my black hair ?
Hi I'm a hairdresser and i thought you could try a few cheap home remedies first. It depends how long ago you coloured your hair, but you could try washing your hair with sink detergant. I know this sounds bad, but because sink detergant has a high amount of sulfate and other striping agents it could help strip some of the colour out of your hair. The more it fades the easier it will be to colour. I would also suggest to put a few highlights in your part(after it fades a bit). You dont need to go overboard, just a few highlights to lighten a little bit. Bleach will be needed as when you have very dark coloured hair, bleach is the only thing that will lighten your hair. Go to a hairdresser and get a consultation.

Good luck.Hairdressers - What can I do to my black hair ?
I don't like to see people get their hair colored black. It's not natural looking, %26amp; if your skin tone is very light, one can look like a ghost. If you really want highlights, let a pro do it. Personally, I'd let it grow out to your natural color, then get highlights put in it. It'd look more natural for sure.
It is certainly possible to break-up the color, but BE CAREFUL. Adding more color to already colored hair can be risky, because you never can tell how the new color will react to what's already on your hair. My advice -- see a professional for some highlights, then maintain them yourself at home.
try ligth brown, blonde, red, or any kind of highlights so that it dosent look as plain.
i'm not a hairdresser but i know from my OWN experience how hard it is to lift dark hair. they could bleach your hair but that's icky. so they could just dye it blonde anyway (the streaks) and it should lighten somewhat, at least to a lighter shade of brown. that's what happened to me. and now i'm back to dark hair, because honestly, a head full of blonde hair doesn't look good on everyone.
I would suggest putting in a few carmel colored highlights for now to see if you like it first...you can always add more later. colors like black and red are the hardest to lift out of your hair and the results vary depending on the product. Also keep in mind the length of your hair...if it's really short try just lightning the bang area or the tips other wise you may turn out calico :)

hope that helps
